Final Fantasy XV Holiday Pack DLC Moogle Chocobo Festival
Final Fantasy XV Holiday Pack DLC Moogle Chocobo Festival Square Enix

On Monday, Square Enix revealed an official start date for the upcoming Moogle Chocobo Carnival, part of the Final Fantasy XV Holiday Pack and Holiday Pack +. The special in-game event will take place in Altissia starting Tuesday, Jan. 24. It’s not clear at this point how long the festival will last, though Square Enix did specify the Moogle Chocobo Carnival would only run “for a limited time.”

It’s still not clear what the Moogle Chocobo Carnival will involve. We know how much Prompto loves chocobos, so we should expect some activities tied into that aspect of his character. Bonus items, quests, hunts and mini-games seem likely, as do festive decorative tweaks to the stunning, mazelike city of Altissia. It’s also probably safe to say we can expect to see some balloons. Lots of balloons.

We already know players will get some new clothing as part of the January carnival; the free version of the Holiday Pack gives Noct a Choco-Mog Tee, “featuring everyone’s favorite fluffy and feathery friends.” Those who sprung for the Season Pass or Premium Edition will get the Festive Ensemble, described as a “fancy and fun outfit perfectly suited for enjoying the festivities. The darling design puts all who see it in high spirits.” It’s not clear if each of the Chocobros will get a special festival outfit, or if the new fashions will boast any nifty stat boosts, like other clothing in the game. (We’re hoping for a “darling” topless look for Gladio, please.)

In the same press release, Square Enix noted that global shipments and digital sales for FFXV have exceeded six million units. Sadly, that success did not carry over to the Justice Monsters V mobile mini-game, which will officially be killed off in March.

The company also hinted toward its ambitious plans for future DLC releases, saying “To allow players a deeper enjoyment of Final Fantasy XV, regular updates enhancing the main game will be coming soon, such as premium DLC content that will provide players additional gameplay experiences.” Along similar lines, Gematsu reports (via Japan’s official FFXV Twitter account) an SE event called the ‘Active Time Report New Year Special’ is in the works, likely to feature a New Year greeting and further details about upcoming FFXV DLC from the game’s director, Hajime Tabata.

REVIEW SUMMARY
Final Fantasy XV
8.5
Combat, Plot, Characters Create Something Flawed, Beautiful, Fantastic
Despite it's flaws, Final Fantasy XV is a milestone achievement: not just for being completed, but for being completed with polish, aplomb and love.
  • Engaging main cast of characters
  • Fun, fast-paced combat
  • A massive, beautiful world to explore
  • The Regalia!
  • Continuous updates have addressed some shortcomings of the initial release
  • Major aspects of the story feel rushed or absent, particularly toward the end of the game
  • Stealth sequences feel out of place
