Sony’s latest State of Play happened yesterday, and it did not disappoint. Check out the complete recap below.

Humanity

First up is a quirky new title set to be released for the PlayStation 4 and PSVR. Humanity comes from publisher Enhance Games and developer Tha Ltd. If that first name rings a bell, it’s because Enhance was involved in probably the most artistic rendition of Tetris yet: Tetris Effect, also released on the PSVR and now available on PC as well. Check out the teaser trailer for Humanity below.

We truly live in a society. Kidding aside, this looks really interesting, if only for the fact that you just know there’s something profound hidden behind all of those people mashing together. According to a press release, Humanity will involve the use of “massive crowds of individual people of all kinds, as they work together and fight against each other in various ways.” The concept and the art design look really interesting, and all that remains to be seen is if it can live up to the actual gameplay.

Humanity will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PSVR in 2020.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Story Trailer

With a ton of hype building up towards the release of Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the game’s newest trailer debuted during the State of Play – and this one is special for fans of the original. This latest trailer breaks down some story elements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, showcasing a grittier and darker story with the rebooted Captain Price once again at the helm of a military op involving chemical weapons. Check it out below.

As expected, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks to be returning to its roots with a storyline that seems all too familiar due to its realism: powerful weapons in the wrong hands, civil war breaking out, and at the center of it all, a ragtag special ops group led by a grizzled veteran. Weirdly enough, for a moment I thought I saw Imran Zakhaev (main antagonist of the original Modern Warfare) at the 1:12 mark. In any case, we should know more about the characters and other story aspects soon.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 25.

Wattam Gameplay Trailer

It’s literally been years we’ve last heard of anything new for Wattam, famed Japanese developer Keita Takahashi’s next highly-anticipated title. Since its first teaser trailer back in 2014, very little has been shown for the quirky title, except for its main concept of joining colorful characters together with cheerful music and very happy vibes. Finally, this State of Play gives the people what it wants: a new gameplay trailer for Wattam, plus an update on its release this year. Check out the trailer below.

Wattam will be released for the PlayStation 4 this December.

Arise

The next segment featured a brand-new game for the PS4 called Arise: A Simple Story. The visuals look really excellent, taking you to far-off lands, each with exhilarating sceneries. As for the story itself, the trailer didn’t reveal much, but going by what was shown it’s apparently a journey into the afterlife by a recently-deceased member of a tribe. Check out the trailer for Arise: A Simple Story below.

Arise: A Simple Story is set to be released for the PS4 at a later date.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files

After its initial successful run for VR devices on PC, Rockstar Games’ L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files will now be making its way to the PlayStation VR. L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is a collection of seven of the game’s cases, fully recreated in a virtual reality environment. Check out a trailer for L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files for the PSVR below.

PlayStation VR users won’t have to wait long as well, as L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is now available for the platform.

PSVR Sizzle Reel

Next up was a sizzle reel of some upcoming PSVR titles. The most noteworthy of these is probably Gorn, as the best-selling and highly popular PC VR title will be making its way to the PlayStation VR. Check out the sizzle reel below to see what to expect from Sony’s virtual reality lineup.

MediEvil Remake Demo Announcement

Following an initial gameplay trailer last State of Play, Sony has released a new one this time around alongside an important announcement: a demo for the MediEvil remake is now available on the PlayStation Store. What’s more, players who try the demo out can claim Dan’s Helmet once the full game comes out. Check out the trailer for the demo below.

The demo will be available until October 6. MediEvil will be released for the PS4 on October 25.

Civilization VI

For the first time in the series’ history, a mainline Civilization title will be heading to the PS4. Following a release for the Nintendo Switch last year, Civilization VI will be releasing on the PlayStation 4 this November. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Civilization VI will be released for the PS4 on November 22.

Death Stranding Special Edition PS4 Pro

With the release of Death Stranding only a few weeks away, Sony has announced a brand-new limited edition PS4 Pro bundle for Kojima’s next title. It looks pretty slick, with the console coming in white and detailed with handprints. The controller is also special and comes in an opalescent yellow color.

Afterparty

From the makers of Oxenfree comes a new adventure game, this time proving itself to work on an even crazier premise. What if you can free yourself from the depths of hell, but to do so, you have to out-party every single overlord demon residing there, culminating in a drinking game with Satan himself? Afterparty’s premise sounds like the best night you could have – minus the eternal suffering with the rest of the demons, of course. Check out a trailer for Afterparty below.

Afterparty is due out on the PS4 on October 29. A release is also planned for PC and Xbox One.

PS+ News – MLB The Show 19 Free This October

If you’re a big fan of baseball, then the next announcement at State of Play may be of interest. MLB The Show 19 will be available on PS+ for free in October, as well as The Last of Us Remastered. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The Last of Us Part II

Saving the best for last, Sony’s final slot for this iteration of State of Play goes to The Last of Us Part II, as its release date is finally revealed. We also get to see some more gameplay footage in action, as well as more story tidbits through Ellie’s journey. For the first time since the announcement, we also now get a look at Joel, who looks considerably older and wiser. Check out the trailer below.

The Last of Us Part II will be releasing exclusively for the PS4 on February 21, 2020.
