PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds got a new pair of patches this week to address vastly different issues with its Steam and Xbox One ports. It’ll be a little while before we know how effective the PC changes are, since the goal is to get players to stop modifying their game installations, but Xbox One owners and PUBG fans content with the PC build have plenty to be excited about too.

According to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, a shocking number of Battlegrounds players are modifying their game installations to prevent being matched into rounds set in the game’s new desert map, Miramar. PUBG fans are even deleting game files for the desert environment so they only see the original map. It’s a surprising about-face from the same community that was abandoning Erangel games en masse when the desert map debuted in December. Now we’re seeing the game’s newest environment receive the exact same treatment as its predecessor.

PUBG Corp. attempted to address the community’s unhappiness in this week’s Steam patch with a number of tweaks to Miramar. New buildings have been added to the map, along with other forms of cover, so players don’t have to spend as much time out in the open. The new Miramar also includes “more off-road routes” so players don’t feel confined to roads in vehicles that shouldn’t be. (Like the buggy.) The game’s new replay system is sort of a mixed bag, and some fans will definitely not be pleased, because old Battlegrounds replays aren’t compatible with the new system. But most of the changes in Update #4 are net positives for the community.

The Xbox One version port of PUBG was also patched this week. The seventh console update includes another round of client optimizations and an update to the “visual quality” of the game’s various weapon reticles. PUBG Corp says vehicle damage is up across the board, whether you are throwing grenades or firing a gun, and tires should be much easier to pop. The studio also provided new sales figures for the Xbox One port, confirming 4 million players are now part of the PUBG community on Microsoft’s newest platform.
