Pokemon Go Plus
Pokemon Go Plus Niantic

Pokémon Go Plus has finally come out. I’ve been messing around with the watch for the last few days, figuring out all of the stuff that I can do with this $35 peripheral beyond keeping the phone in my pocket and save some battery. . Here’s a list of things your Pokemon Go Plus can do.

  • In order to connect the Pokemon Go Plus, you should go to the game's setting, click the "Pokemon Go Plus" button which adds an icon on the main screen. Make sure bluetooth is turned on on your phone. Then click the icon on the screen and the button on the device and the two should pair.
  • The PoGo Plus needs to be within 100 feet of your phone in order to work. It will disconnect if the watch moves out of bluetooth range. The watch will also disconnect randomly, especially when you need it the most. If you want to test if your watch is still connected to your phone, press the button. It will vibrate if still connected and blink blue if it’s first connecting.

  • The watch tracks walking distance just as well as the regular app. Eggs will hatch and buddies will gain candy while the app is open in the background of your phone. While you are using the watch, your phone uses less power but will still die if connected all day. GPS and bluetooth use a lot of power.

  • If the PoGo Plus disconnects, it will shine a bright red light and vibrate. Get used to that happening a lot.

  • The watch blinks blue when a Pokéstop is nearby and will show a rainbow animation with three vibrations. If you open the app while your watch is cycling through the Pokéstop animation, you won’t be able to click the Pokéstop. When you try to spin it in the phone, a “try again later” message will pop up. It’s a glitch that will hopefully be fixed.

  • If your bag is full when the Pokéstop animation lights up, instead of a rainbow, you will see a white light shine. It’s a little addition but it really makes the watch feel useful.

  • When a Pokémon appears nearby, the watch will flash green. Then you will get three white lights and vibrations, followed by a rainbow if you successfully caught the Pokémon. A red light will appear if you missed.

  • If you are using the app to catch Pokémon, you will miss most of the time. That’s a sad fact. The app throws Pokéballs, so good Pokémon will escape most of the time. This is the biggest problem when using the PoGo Plus , it lets every good Pokémon run away.

  • For a better chance at catching Pokémon, throw away all your Pokéballs so that it has to use Great or Ultra Balls.
