Sony Pictures Entertainment just dropped the official trailer for Gran Turismo and viewers are in for a treat, especially those who love racing.

What Is It?

Gran Turismo is a very popular racing video game with fast cars, challenging race tracks, and cool tunes to boot.

The upcoming movie adaptation tells the story of the young Jann Mardenborough, portrayed by Archie Madekwe, a Gran Turismo player with skills unlike any other. It is directed by Neill Blomkamp, famously known for his work as the director of the science fiction action film, District 9.

In the trailer, he's told by his dad that racing is not only an expensive sport to get into, but it is also very dangerous. But Mardenborough is adamant and does everything he can to become a bonafide racecar driver.

Joining Madekwe is an all-star cast. Jann Mardenborough will be trained by Jack Salter, portrayed by Stranger Things star David Harbour. In addition, Orlando Bloom will also play a role in the movie as Danny Moore, the Motorsports marketing executive who sees potential in Mardenborough. He believes that the young up-and-coming race car driver will make a name for himself.

Of course, things are not going to be easy for the young Mardenborough. As shown in the trailer, racing in real life can be pretty dangerous, even outright deadly if the racer makes even a slight mistake.

Listed below are the other actors starring in the movie:

  • Geri Halliwell (Spice World)
  • Daniel Puig (Naomi)
  • Josha Stradowski (The Wheel of Time)
  • Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
  • Maeve Courtier-Lilley (The Outpost)
  • Richard Cambirdge (Golden Years)
  • Emelia Hartford (A California Christmas: City Lights)
  • Sang Heon Lee (XO Kitty)
  • Max Mundt (How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast))
  • Harki Bhambra (Our Girl)
  • Nikhil Parmar (Foundation)
  • Mariano González (Once)
  • Théo Christine
  • Lindsay Pattison
  • Pepe Barroso

While the movie has a star-studded cast, people have mixed reactions about it. User @Danhedgehog said that the movie looks great so far and that they loved the Gran Turismo games growing up, so they're likely going to watch it as it comes out later this year.

Another user is not too excited though, as they've simply stated that the entire movie is pointless.

The Gran Turismo movie is set for release on August 11. So, are you excited about it?
