A new South Park game is apparently in development at THQ Nordic, as confirmed during the latest THQ Nordic Digital Showcase live-streamed over the weekend. The announcement is a very pleasant surprise for most South Park fans, as it has been quite some time since the last game arrived on the franchise. This is also a huge change in terms of development paradigms, as the last few South Park titles were handled by Ubisoft.

The surprise announcement came just at the very end of the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, dab smack in the middle of the credits. Check it out below, timestamped at 55:13:

As shown in the video, a statement was first announced mentioning 43 games in development, with 26 yet to be announced. However, a scribble was made over the number 26, followed by a few words from Randy Marsh, one of the more popular characters in South Park. The South Park Digital Studios logo was then shown, followed by an amendment to the statement stating that there are now 25 games left to be announced.

Besides this very simple teaser announcement, not much else was revealed about what this new South Park game is about, when it will be released, and for which platforms. South Park Digital Studios will be in charge of development, and this will be the first in-house game developed for the franchise. The past few entries since 2014 were all handled by Ubisoft, and all achieved varying degrees of success.

2014 saw the release of South Park: Stick of Truth, a turn-based RPG based on a fantasy-style tongue-in-cheek world where players can play as the various children in South Park. This was followed by a direct sequel, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, which elaborates on the first by making it a turn-based RPG on a grid, this time, centering on the town populated by various superheroes. A mobile game developed by RedLynx in collaboration with Ubisoft Pune called South Park: Phone Destroyer was also released in 2017, currently available on iOS and Android.
