Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality headset is a whopping $3,000, but the tech giant hasn’t been very forthcoming about what components are in the headset that could give it such a price tag. However, tech blog Windows Central recently ran the HoloLens through the AIDA64 benchmark and shared the results.

Is the HoloLens worth $3,000, with a Intel Atom x5-Z8100 processing chip? Publications including the Verge say no. Recent reports indicate that development of Intel Atom chips will soon discontinue, leaving pundits to wonder how the HoloLens will develop in the future. Currently, Microsoft is shipping development models of the HoloLens, which requires prospective owners to apply for the opportunity to purchase the device. There is no word on plans of offer consumer models.

The HoloLens also features the Windows 10.0.11802.1033 operating system, which isn’t surprising, considering Microsoft developed Windows 10 as a universal software to run on many different devices. The HoloLens also has a graphics chip developed by Intel.

Memory for the HoloLens includes 114 MB of dedicated video memory, 980 MB of shared system memory, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, with 54.09 GB of internal storage available to users. Applications have a size limit of 900 MB.

The HoloLens includes a 16,500mWh battery, a camera which takes 2.4 megapixel resolution still images and 1.1 megapixel resolution video at 30 frames per second.

Pundits appear underwhelmed with the HoloLens specs. Window Central notes that the headset has a low capacity battery, which can provide only about 2 hours of use.

Those excited for the HoloLens can take comfort in the fact that a lot will likely change on the device before it hits stores. Hopefully, the price is one of those things.
