Krypton Gets Release Date & Synopsis Teasing Adam Strange’s Role

First look at Krypton.
First look at Krypton. SYFY

Krypton is the most unassuming comic book show set to release next year, but it could end up being the best. The SYFY series, which just got a March 2018 release date, follows Seg-El as he fights to ensure his grandson Kal-El, a.k.a. Superman, becomes one of Earth's mightiest heroes. Geoff Johns’ ambitious vision for the series took many fans by surprise at San Diego Comic Con--he confirmed the appearance of Adam Strange, Hawkwoman, Doomsday, Brainiac, General Zod, Mongul, Nightwing and Flamebird--yet even the new synopsis says very little about what’s in store for the series beyond the struggling House of El.

Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray, Seg-El encounters Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) who warns he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos. Fighting to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves, Seg is also faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson.

Considering we don’t know much about this complicated plot, all we can do is speculate. Narrative aside, what’s most exciting about the prospect of Krypton is SYFY’s proven ability to bring the worlds we imagine from fiction novel to the small screen. If you’ve watched The Expanse, you know what I’m talking about. The scope of that world, which travels from planet to planet and shows huge 20-minute long space battles, was an accomplishment regardless of the slow pace and resolution less story (which is probably why more people haven’t watched even though it’s wonderfully written). With the comic book community’s fan base behind it, Krypton’s capacity to draw in viewers from the jump, in addition to DC’s confident vision, the success or failure of this series will say a lot about the future of the comic book genre on television.

Are you as excited for Krypton as we are? Let us know in the comments.
