KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Fantastic Days finally had its worldwide launch and it was truly a delight for those who have been waiting for it. Suffice to say that the game did not disappoint, at least to the fans.

The game had actually been released last year but it was limited to Japan. Thus for fans who couldn’t wait, they had to use VPN and go through the Japanese text. With the worldwide release, they no longer have to go through that.

Even before the actual release, the excitement for fans was really high. One of the reasons why is because many of the Japanese voice actors have reprised their roles.

Anime Cutscenes

The graphics are good although it’s what one would typically expect from these types of mobile games. What made the game better was the cutscenes - in anime style. This made the experience exciting while continuing to have that connection to the anime series.

Cooldowns and Charging

Gameplay is pretty much what you would expect from a typical gatcha game. However, it does offer its own twist. The combat is in real-time and the use of cooldowns is good. What happens is each character has three skills and a Super. The skills can be used anytime as long as they are not on cooldown. The Super, meanwhile, needs some time before it's ready. This means for each round, you must be smart about which skills to use.

It’s also worth noting that the combat incorporates some of the character quirks. If you’re using Darkness, her Swing has a tendency to miss, which is what happens in the manga and anime, and that's a delight for fans. However, new players may wonder and believe that she is no good because she keeps missing.

Good Callbacks

The story is solid enough. When you start the game, you’re taken back to the first act of the story and for fans, this may come as a surprise. It turns out that Kazuma was simply reminiscing about the “old days” and the whole gang is actually up to their usual hijinks. This one, in particular, has the gang try to save Aqua from being swallowed by a frog. After that, it leads you to the tutorial on combat mechanics.

Issues

There are still some issues though. In my case, the game so far keeps crashing when I try to log in using my email. So to play the game I chose “Guest” and it worked. Another is the usual memory issues. When initially downloading the game, you’ll think it’s only a few MB. Once you start playing, it downloads additional data that results in the game exceeding 1 GB.

Final Verdict

If you’re a fan of the series, then you’ll surely have fun and there’s really nothing to lose in trying out the game. Non-fans can still enjoy the game though they may have some problem getting the references or appreciating what’s happening in the game.

As of this writing, the game is rated 4.4/5 stars on Google Play and 4.7/4 on the App Store.

For us here, we’re putting it at 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a fun game but there’s still room for improvement.

What about you? Ready to try the game?
