Team17 and Tributary Games are offering a new kind of online multiplayer party game. King of the Castle takes place in a fictional fantasy medieval kingdom, where players take on the role of the Monarch or one of the Council of Nobles. It’s scheduled for release on March 2 on Steam.

In the game, players get the chance to lead their kingdom to a Golden Age or to a complete disaster. Players and their friends take on quests and try to work their way in a world of politics and treachery.

In King of the Castle, a player can serve as host and use their PC to play as Monarch. This player now needs to work with the Council of Nobles, members of which can join for free through Twitch or any web browser. They then play through a series of storylines full of unique challenges, with many can have truly far-reaching consequences.

At the start of each game, Nobles are automatically assigned a unique homeland. As the story moves forward, they vote on key decisions with the resulting impact and legitimacy determined by the Monarch. Noble players having Twitch accounts can also voice their thoughts through the chat function to discuss dilemmas faced by the crown. It goes without saying that Nobles can also usurp and plan not-so-secret uprisings right under their ruler’s nose.

Key features of the game include:

  • Cooperative Online Multiplayer
    • Work together with friends or strangers through Twitch or the web browser.
    • Steer the fate of the kingdom, tackle unique challenges, and play a key part in the downfall or prosperity.
  • Write Your Story

    • Each has its own characters, choices, and of course, far-reaching consequences.

    • Be sure to keep an eye out for brewing political unrest or revolts.
  • Democracy Manifest
    • Bribe, persuade, or intimidate through difficult votes.
    • It’s also possible to alter the law entirely to have that extra sway in the polls.
  • Customize the Kingdom
    • Players can ensure their legacy on the land by choosing the name, pronouns, appearance, and even family crest.
  • Web Browser Mode
    • Gather a party of 4 to 21 people and play together with friends.
    • Only the game hosts need to own a copy of the game.
    • Others can join from their mobile device or web browser for free using a unique access code.
