The next iPhone 8 will tout several distinct design changes, including rumors of a bezel-less display, an all-glass body and wireless charging. And while all the new design and features are all well and good, sometimes what smartphone users really want from a new device is som good ole durability. Via MacRumors, the next iPhone could boast IP68-rated water resistance.

The new iPhone's IP68 rating indicates a score of 6 for dust resistance, which means the new iPhone is virtually dustproof with "no ingress of dust" and "complete protection against contact." The 8 rating indicates a very high level of water resistence, able to take 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. Compared to the iPhone 7's IP67-rating, the new iPhone is capable of an extra 0.5 meters.

Despite the iPhone 7's respectable water resistance rating, Apple will not cover liquid damage in its warranty. Likewise, we don't expect the anticipated iPhone 8 to introduce water damage coverage in the Apple warranty either.

Previously, we mentioned that the iPhone 8's rumored all-glass body could make it better suited for wireless charging as the metal frames in the current models would dampen wireless frequency tolerences. What's more, a bezel-less display may also accompany the new iPhone's all-glass design. According to early reports, a bezel-less display could mean taking away the physical home button and fingerprint scanner, opting for a button and fingerprint reader on the display itself.
