Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the holiest grails in gaming, with millions of players worldwide eagerly awaiting Rockstar Games’ next official entry to one of the most successful video game series of all time. If a new report is to be believed, it would seem that the game is still at least two years away from release, with supposed new details dropped via an exclusive feature on GTA 6 ’s development.
According to the report, GTA 6 will include a playable female character, a first for the series overall. The woman, also a Latina, will be one of two playable protagonists in GTA 6; the pair is heavily influenced by Bonnie and Clyde. It also appears that Rockstar Games is being a bit more conscientious with modern times, taking care not to “punch down” and make jokes targeted at various marginalized groups.
Supposedly originally codenamed “Project Americas,” the early map plans for GTA 6 were reportedly at a scale bigger than any previous Grand Theft Auto title, and at one point, included a large area of both North and South America. However, this has been scaled down quite a bit, with the current main map occupying a fictionalized version of Miami and surrounding areas. It’s unclear if this fictional Miami is equivalent to Vice City, much like how Los Santos came back in GTA 5 from GTA San Andreas.
Another possible big change for GTA 6 compared to its predecessors is that Rockstar Games plans to update it over time, adding new missions and cities regularly. This is a vastly different model from the previous GTA titles save for GTA Online, and for the latter, it is understandable, as the game focused heavily on content support to keep its multiplayer base intact.
It’s unknown just how accurate the report is, but given author Jason Schreier’s track record in the industry, this news on GTA 6 may very well be our most solid first inside look at the game to date. In any case, take everything with a grain of salt until officially confirmed, which, judging by Rockstar’s timeline, should be in a couple of years.
