The original "God of War" trilogy was set in Greece, and after the two modern games that had Kratos taking a trip to the Nordic regions and facing a new mythology, the next game is going back to its roots, according to a new leak.
After years of swaying towards Norse mythology and a new region, the next "God of War" game that will follow "Ragnarok" is reportedly crossing the Mediterranean Sea again.
Still, there will be massive challenges to this as it is known that the original trilogy already wrapped up Kratos' story in Greece, leading him to cross the waters to the Nordic region which he is apparently leaving behind for a homecoming.
'God of War' New Game Leak: Returning to Greece
There is an upcoming State of Play event from PlayStation coming this week, and this is reigniting the massive rumors about a new "God of War" game that would continue the franchise's renowned success over the years.
According to ComicBook Gaming, there have been multiple rumors about PlayStation and Sony Santa Monica working on a new "God of War" game that would have players revisiting a familiar place. However, this new setting of the game is all too familiar as the story will take a trip back to the Greek region and its roots.
Based on previous reports, this specific game is set to be a sequel, one that would feature a younger Kratos (far younger than his age before the first game) who is still exploring the ancient country. Moreover, it would not be a continuation of the latest mainline game from the series, "God of War: Ragnarok," which features an older Kratos who already has a son and faces off against Nordic gods.
Tom Henderson and other sources have corroborated that this new game from the "God of War" franchise would be smaller in scale and will focus on a "2.5D Metroidvania" game instead.
New 'God of War' Game May Be Revealed Soon
The report also claimed that there is a possibility that this specific spin-off game would be revealed closer than expected, particularly with the upcoming State of Play event that Sony recently confirmed for June 4.
The important thing to take into account is that this would not be the first time that the "God of War" franchise released spin-offs, particularly with its PSP games.
