‘Gambit’ Movie Update: How Ryan Reynolds And Hugh Jackman Taught Channing Tatum To Get Shit Right

It feels like we’ve been waiting three years for solid Gambit news. Oh, wait, we have. This is far from a concrete release timeline but X-Men franchise writer Simon Kinberg told ComicBook.com the film is now in active development. Last we heard, the movie was set to begin filming this spring. But now, Kinberg says next year.

"It's a movie that we hope will be ready to go by the end of this year and shoot next year. We have two or three X-Men related movies this year so it can wait for a moment.”

Not only are there a host of other X-Men movies on the docket, Kinberg explains Channing Tatum's plans to follow in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds -- who both took the time to learn how to absolutely nail their characters in Deadpool and the upcoming Logan film, which is said to be the best movie with Wolverine to date.

“The process has been that Channing [Tatum] is as determined about getting the character right as Ryan Reynolds was about Deadpool and Hugh [Jackman] was about this Logan movie. We know that when we get those right, the movie succeeds so we want to make sure we get Gambit right because we want him to be the beginning of a whole new franchise."

With Hugh Jackman done with the Wolverine franchise, Gambit and Deadpool will be very important solo characters moving forward. X-Men: New Mutants is also in development.
