The Flash recap with spoilers ahead.

The episode opens in Star Labs. Barry slows down time, looks around the room at all his friends and says, “This is because of my weakness: flashpoint.” He decides nobody else should have to pay for his sins. Barry asks Cisco to get the breach room ready because he’s going to save Wally in the speed force.

H.R. Wells suggests Cisco build a safety precaution, an interdimensional tether to anchor Barry to Earth-1. Cisco fits Barry with a new Flash chestpiece equipped with what he calls an ‘electro halo’ using ‘goldtooth,’ the interdimensional equivalent of bluetooth. Barry says goodbye to everyone and asks Jesse Quick to protect the city. When Barry says goodbye to Iris, she just walks away, cleary pissed since Barry only asked her to marry him to try and change the future.

Barry first encounters Eddie in the speed force, who tells him Wally is in the prison his future self created.“We gave you your speed back because you said you’d come to terms with your mother's death, but you lied to us you went back in time to save her and created flashpoint. We can't allow you to make any more choices like that,” the speed force tells Barry, through Eddie’s body.

Eddie asks Barry if saving Wally is the only reason he came back, and when Barry says yes, a time wraith starts chasing him. Eddie says he has to outrun the time wraiths through a pair of doors. Once he gets through, Barry sees Caitlin and Ronnie had a baby and Ronnie warns Barry to leave the speed force while he still can. But it’s too late. Black Flash comes out of nowhere and attacks Barry. The two speedsters fight until Black Flash gets the upper hand and says, “You must free yourself first.” Black Flash grips Barry’s neck as Barry’s face turns grey and black. Barry takes off his new Flash emblem and uses it to send a huge bolt of blue lightning through Black Flash.

Barry wakes up and sees Captain Cold, who informs him Wally is reliving the single most painful moment of his life over and over again: his mother’s death. “You're not learning your lesson Barry. You keep telling us one thing and doing another,” Captain Cold lectures to Barry. “You know what inspired Leonard Snart to sacrifice himself, Barry Allen, you inspired him to be better, to be selfless, to sacrifice himself for others, to be a hero just like you,” Snart says before he blasts Barry with his cold gun. Thankfully, Jay Garrick comes to Barry’s rescue.

Jay is not a figment of the speed force, he’s real. Cisco came to Earth-3 to warn Jay Barry was in trouble. They find Wally, but Jay insists on staying in the speed force prison in Wally’s place. “Not every marathon has a finish line,” Jay says before he gives Barry is cap.

Meanwhile, Jesse is using a the piece of Savitar’s armor that was stuck in Barry's chest to track the speed god's location. The armor gravitates toward Savitar, the material constantly moving on the inside, like the moon influences tides. H.R. tries to stop Jesse from going after Savitar, so she knocks him out and chases Savitar’s piece of armor as it starts to move down the streets of Central City. The two come face to face and Savitar reveals he’s lived all of this already. Jesse runs around Savitar and throws lightning at him to no effect. “I have such plans for you in the future Jesse Quick,” Savitar says before Jesse stabs him with his own armor and he runs away.

Everyone arrives back at Star Labs, but Jesse says she wants to go be Flash on Earth-3 for a while to get away from Savitar and the plans he has for her. It’s also a sad ending for Iris. Barry breaks up with her and says he “wants to embrace the future.”

CLIFFHANGER: Since Jesse Quick was able to stab him, we know Savitar is an actual person, not a god. Savitar also says he’s already lived through all these events, which suggests it’s someone we know, either Wally, Barry, or maybe even H.R. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
