If you’ve been on the fence about getting an HTC Vive headset, now’s the time to make the leap. Starting today, all Vive headsets will include a free copy of Fallout 4 VR. Fallout 4 VR isn’t available yet, but anyone who buys an HTC Vive will get a code that can be redeemed for a free copy of the VR game once it releases Dec. 12.

"Fallout 4 VR is the most anticipated title for VR this holiday, and the game development team at Bethesda Game Studios is delivering on the promise with a full-length AAA open-world game that takes advantage of Vive’s incredible room-scale immersion for a mind-blowing experience in the Wasteland,” Joel Breton, the GM of Vive Studios, said in a press statement. “The promise of a game with near endless content, including hundreds of locations, characters, and quests, fully playable in VR, is something that we have been focused on providing for the VR gaming community. We are now thrilled to provide this incredible game to new Vive owners and eagerly look forward to game’s launch on Vive this December.”

Player. One has demoed early builds of Fallout 4 VR and our impressions were mixed. While Fallout 4 VR does offer a massive amount of gaming and is one of the most fully fleshed-out VR games to release so far, the experience left us wanting more. Player. One’s Mo Mozuch felt combat was a breeze with a Vive on, but wished there was a better way to move around instead of warping or “lilly-padding” which is standard for many VR experiences.. So much of the game’s interaction with objects is stuck behind menus instead of having to use your hands, which felt like a missed opportunity to take advantage of one of the Vive’s best features.

That said, a free game is a free game, and you can’t do much worse than getting Fallout 4 for no extra charge.

So what do you think? Does getting a free copy of Fallout 4 VR make buying a Vive a more attractive idea? Will you wait until more games are available to play in VR before getting one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
