'F1 2017' Trailer: Classic F1 Cars, Deeper Career Mode, New Gameplay Types And Alternative Circuit Layouts Announced

The past couple seasons of Formula 1 somehow evolved into a competition of tire management and strategy over actual driving ability at outright speed. Combined with the predictable dominance of Mercedes-Benz, the 2016 season of Formula 1 had become quite boring and mundane. But with the new regulation changes this year, 2017 has been an electifying season for Formula 1 so far. What's more, it looks like Codemasters' upcoming F1 2017 title is shaping to be an interesting and refreshing game as well.

According to the latest announcements from the developer, the anticipated F1 2017 will not only deliver the latest F1 cars, but also bring back some of the most iconic contemporary racecars in Formula 1 history. Codemasters teased there will be more to come, but announced the following historic cars on Wednesday:

  • 2002 Ferrari F2002 (Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello)
  • 1992 Williams FW14B (Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese)
  • 1988 McLaren MP4/4 (Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost)

“After an extremely successful year with the highly acclaimed F1 2016, we are delighted to be announcing F1 2017 and re-introducing classic F1 cars back to the series” said Paul Jeal, Codemasters Game Director. “Classics were incredibly well received when we included them in F1 2013, and in F1 2017 they are back and better than ever. With so many great cars to choose from, it was hard to decide on the final twelve, but we are delighted with our selection of some of the most successful and iconic fan favourites from the past 30 years.”

In addition to the new old cars, F1 2017 will also introduce a new "Championship" game mode, which Creative Director Lee Mather described as a mixed campaign involving races in modern day as well as invitational events in the different classic F1 cars throught the season. Additional gameplay types and four alternate circuit layouts were also hinted, although details are still relatively slim.
