The beloved Hot Shots Golf franchise from Sony has been dormant since 2011. It featured arcade style golf, offering gamers an alternative to the more serious Tiger Woods PGA Tour games from EA Sports. The golf video game market has shrunk significantly in recent years as the new EA Sports’ Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is released every other year and The Golf Club has not gained much traction among fans.
But with the thin competition, this may be an opportunity for Hot Shots Golf to have a triumphant return for its 20th anniversary. Everybody’s Golf is the latest installment for the Hot Shots franchise and will be released for PlayStation 4 on Aug. 29.
Nothing has changed from the last Hot Shots Golf game – players will still have three click shot mechanic, but the game will now feature new character customization and an open world environment. In the announcement, it was also mentioned that Everybody's Golf would have other features such as fishing, buggy racing, and treasure hunting. Inside of a golf game, these three aspects could be very interesting for players who may not want to play an overly elaborate golf game.
It was also announced that certain players will be eligible to participate in a closed online test for Everybody’s Golf sometime in May. Sony is advertising “robust online modes” so a beta prior to the game’s release is a great idea to see what works and what may not work.
Per usual, there are always special rewards for players who pre-order games and Everybody's Golf is no different.
