Adventure-survival game Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories will have its release in the west by 2020, publishers NIS (Nippon Ichi Software) America announced recently.

Originally planned to be released on March 10, 2011 (the day before the Tohoku earthquake and Tsunami) for the PS3, Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories was cancelled due to time constraints preventing the game from being finished. In 2014, developer Granzella had acquired the intellectual property for the video game series with a rebranded name. The game was originally known as Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories (with the 'Plus' omitted).

Known as Zettai Zetsumei Toshi ( 絶体絶命都市 The Desperate City) in its native Japan, Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories focuses on a student’s summer vacation that is violently interrupted by a devasting earthquake. The players’ goal is to escape the aftermath of the disaster.

The game features several RPG mechanics, such as customization options which are available at the start of the game. Clothing items are available throughout the game, too. Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories also features a needs system that adds an element of realism, such as a cleanliness meter that increases stress depending on how dirty your character is.

Interactions with NPCs is also essential to your character’s survival, but they may be beneficial or detrimental to you reaching your goal. The game boasts over 60 characters that your character can interact with while escaping. All in all, think of The Sims set in any Roland Emmerich movie.

Developer Granzella recently declared an exclusive release in Japan for the Nintendo Switch by September 2019. This was after its successful PlayStation 4 release in November of last year. A future western release will bring it to North America and European fans. The game will contain the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories' wester release includes a version on PC via the Steam Shop, in addition to its current and upcoming availability on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Currently, the game is available for pre-order on the NIS America Online Store, with a standard version and limited edition going for $89.99. The limited edition comes with a Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories official soundtrack, a novelty “Emergency” backpack, an identification tag, and a novelty “First Aid” collector’s box.
