Soulframe is not the only big announcement coming from Warframe developer Digital Extremes over the weekend, as the studio announced a collaboration with developer Airship Syndicate for a brand-new, yet-to-be-announced title. This new game, like Warframe and Soulframe, is completely free-to-play, and is an online character-based, third-person fantasy action game set in a “new, original world where adventure with friends is the name of the game.” Check out the announcement video below that played during TennoCon 2022.

Airship Syndicate is a studio based in Austin, Texas, founded in 2014. Before this iteration, head honchos Joe Madureira and Ryan Stefanelli originally co-founded Vigil Games, the now-defunct studio best known for the Darksiders series under the former THQ brand. Madureira and Stefanelli collaborated once again to form Airship Syndicate, an independent studio with a small team.

The studio currently has three games under its belt. The first offering, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, was published by THQ Nordic in 2017 and was released on PC and consoles. It was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign and put Airship Syndicate on the map, and was a hit within the Battle Chasers community. Madureira, who is also a prolific comic book artist, worked on comic books.

The second game is a bit more well-known, and something of a revival for the founders of Airship Syndicate. Darksiders Genesis was released in 2019 on PC and consoles and tells the story of Strife, the fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse. Unlike the other Darksiders titles, Darksiders Genesis took a top-down approach to the hack-and-slash action RPG title and was well-received by fans of the series.

The studio’s third title was released just last year, also to a generally positive reception. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is a standalone title set in the League of Legends universe, breaking away from the MOBA formula and is instead a turn-based RPG much like Battle Chasers: Nightwar. It is now available on consoles and PC.

This next project is sure to be an interesting one, given that this will be Airship Syndicate’s first foray into the free-to-play online space. The studio has also not given out intended platforms, although it will most likely be available on consoles and PC.
