Call Of Duty: WWII has gone gold about three weeks ahead of the game’s Nov. 3 release date. Sledgehammer Games Co-Founder Glen Schofield announced the news via Twitter Wednesday evening.

“This giant project WWII is done creatively,” he revealed. “Three years of research, design, writing etc. is over.” He added that he feels “bit a bit empty” but is proud that everything is “in the hands of the fans now.”

Schofield and his fellow Co-Founder Michael Condrey have essentially been the public faces of Call Of Duty: WWII since the project was first revealed in April. It’s only appropriate that a man so critical to the game’s creative vision be the first to tweet this exciting news to his 96,000 followers.

As for what going gold means for the game, it’s a bit hard to say. With three weeks to go until launch, we imagine most of the studio’s efforts will now shift entirely over to QA and developing the assumed day-one patch. The retail product is basically done at this point, but the development team will likely polish up the game over the next few weeks. Once that happens, the press will receive review materials and final verdicts can be recorded. While not as major a milestone as it once was, going gold is still a great achievement for any team.

Development on Call Of Duty: WWII began shortly after the completion of Sledgehammer’s last game, Advanced Warfare. Now that this base product is mostly done, we imagine the creative work will now begin on what could be 2020’s Call Of Duty.

In the weeks leading up to launch, the only thing left to show is something related to maps and gameplay for Nazi Zombies. Beyond that, fans have played multiplayer, seen campaign trailers and grasped the new mechanics. Call Of Duty time is almost upon us. Are you ready to go back to the past?

Call Of Duty: WWII comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC Nov. 3.

While it’s not a perfect game, Call Of Duty: WWII knows the expectations it has to meet and hits almost every single one of them fairly well.
  • Action-packed campaign
  • Traditional multiplayer at its best
  • A more welcoming Zombies mode
  • Predictable story
  • Small multiplayer maps
  • Post-launch server issues
