A release date for the rumored Assassin’s Creed Empire looks likely for October 2017, if a recent retailer leak is to be believed. First spotted on reddit, the Assassin’s Creed Empire listing for World of Games, a Swiss retailer, originally displayed a release date of October 2017. However, once reports of the Assassin’s Creed Empire leak began to emerge the site has since updated and now shows only a listing for a Q4 2017 launch. Is this possible?

Definitely. For starters, Ubisoft has a long tradition of releasing Assassin’s Creed games in Q4, with mid-October to early November accounting for most of the release dates. The last two numbered games in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag , both came out in October. Ubisoft famously took a year off of churning out AC games, presumably to try to retool and refresh a franchise that’s gone stale. I mean, there’s only so many follow missions and so much time-travel DNA hijinx gamers can handle. And an October release puts Assassin’s Creed Empire far away from the movie that nobody saw, too.

This all assumes Assassin’s Creed Empire is the next AC game, but some seemingly credible leaks and rumors over the past year point to this being the case. Most prominent is a reddit post (now deleted) showing a screenshot of an AC protagonist standing in the doorway of a ruin or temple, accompanied by the claim this would be a game set in ancient Egypt. Also a 4chan leaker in January last year predicted there would be no AC release in 2016 and that this year’s game would be set in Egypt. It will likely serve as a prequel to other games in the series. Ubisoft itself seems to have teased the setting for Assassin’s Creed Empire by way of an Abstrego employee e-mail thread found in Black Flag .

So, yeah, clearly lots and lots of rumors and leaks surrounding the Assassin’s Creed Empire release point toward it being the real thing. You can also point to the circumstantial evidence too since it checks a number of AC boxes. Historical mumbo jumbo? Check. Cool shit to climb (Sphinx, Pyramids)? Check. Flimsy geographical excuse to showcase the sublime sailing and pirating mechanics of Black Flag ? Check.

When will we know for sure if an Assassin’s Creed Empire release date is on the books for October? E3 is the likeliest platform for an announcement, either as part of an Ubisoft showcase or included in either the Sony or Microsoft press event as an “exclusive reveal” tied to some nonsensical DLC skins thing because Ubi is as Ubi does.
