‘Arrow’ Season 5: How Nyssa Al Ghul Could Return On ‘Arrow’ Or ‘Legends’

Talia al Ghul showed her face for the first time on Arrow in Season 5 episode 10, and we’ll see a lot more of her in next week’s episode, “Second Chances.” It’s weird because we’ve gotten to know her sister, Nyssa, very well over the last few years, yet we’ve never seen her and Talia together. The only time we saw Talia was with her father, Ra’s, at the League of Assassins in a past timeline White Canary traveled to on Legends. Nyssa also rarely spoke of her sister, so there’s clearly a huge mystery here. What’s these sisters’ deal?

While a Nyssa and Talia on-screen appearance together is far from set in stone, Katrina Law, who played Nyssa on Arrow, really hopes Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim can figure something out for the future.

"When I found out they were casting Talia, I e-mailed Marc and I was like, 'Please, please let us have a sister showdown!'" Law told ComicBook.com. "Because my inner nerd was just kind of exploding because if it's anything like the comics I know that my character basically kills Talia 50 times and just keeps dumping into the Lazarus pit so she can keep bringing her back and get her onto her evil ways.”

Stephen Amell did tease a resurrection this season, and it doesn’t look like it will be Laurel Lance. Maybe we’ll actually get another Lazarus Pit revival? Law says probably not, but she’d settle for a sister-sister team up even though it’s not how their relationship went down in the comics.

“I don't think that's gonna happen in Arrow the television series but one can always hope. But, if not, if not a contentious relationship, then maybe one where we're like standing back to back shooting arrows. That'd be pretty cool."

Law also points out a very interesting opportunity about how she could return to DC TV in the future. After Arrow Season 5, Oliver’s flashbacks will come full circle. Guggenheim has teased flashbacks, and flashforwards, could continue into Season 6 with other characters. White Canary and Nyssa al Ghul’s relationship would be a great way to start. The catch is, it may have to happen on Legends of Tomorrow instead of Arrow. White Canary is pretty busy flying the Waverider, so unless she and Nyssa would both come back and guest star on Arrow, it may be more likely we’ll see Nyssa on Legends.

"I think a Legends of Tomorrow appearance should be mandatory!" Law said. "That's what I'm thinking because we need Sara and Nyssa. We need the Nyssara backstory of how they met on Lian Yu and how she trained her and basically how she found her on the streets and what the introduction to Ra's al Ghul was like and eventually how they fell in love, I think people want to see that. I want to see that. Hopefully, one day. Again, I have no idea, but fingers crossed. That's the wishlist."

Look out for Talia al Ghul in the flashbacks in Arrow Season 5 episode 11, “Second Chances.” It appears she is the woman who trained both Oliver and Prometheus in Russia. Oliver’s next challenge will be finding her in present day.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
