On Jan. 9, the College Football National Championship will be determined in Tampa Bay, Florida on ESPN. The participants in the 2017 version of the game are the same participants that were in the 2016 edition, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers. In last year’s game Alabama defeated Clemson 45-40 in what many called one of the best national championship games in history.

While we still have some time before the big game, predictions are being thrown around and the college football pundits are announcing that this game will be a repeat of last year’s classic. But what if we can see how the game will turn out virtually?

The guys at Sports Gamer Online used NCAA Football 14 and simulated the College Football Playoff National Championship game. Using current rosters via Roster Share, a feature that still makes NCAA Football 14 one of the best games to play even to this day, the guys at SGO were able to play out how the game could out.

Both teams came out firing as Alabama forced a fumble of Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson on the first play of the game and recovered it for a touchdown. Watson brushed off the fumble and led Clemson back down the field for the game-tying touchdown. The story of the first half were the defenses as both Watson and Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts were hit and hit often by the opposing defenses. Even with that, the first half ended in a 21-21 tie.

The second half started with a Hurts’ fumble on a scramble which was recovered by Clemson and converted into a field goal. Alabama marched back down the field as Gehrig Dieter caught a bomb from Hurts to give the Crimson Tide a 28-24 lead. Another Clemson field goal cut the lead to one but Alabama kicked one of their own that gave them a four-point lead. Clemson got the ball back with under two minutes to play but Watson fumbled on a scramble play and Alabama won their second consecutive National Championship by the score of 31-27.
