With the closed beta of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links mobile game complete, fans of the popular trading card game are waiting for when a possible open beta and the official release of the game.

Konami announced the full launch of Duel Links will be released this Winter but we got to catch up with some of the team from Konami working with the developers of Duel Links at New York Comic Con.

While dates for any open betas or the official release could not be disclosed, besides the Winter release date window, we did find out some interesting tidbits about what players should expect when the game comes to iOS and Android.

For those who have played the closed beta of Duel Links know that the Card Shop is, probably, the most important aspect of the game. You start with a deck that, to put it plainly, doesn’t have the best cards. You duel others to gain experience and money to eventually go to the Card Shop and buy some booster packs, just like you would in real life.

However, during the closed beta players had only one boost set to choose from, The Ultimate Rising featuring Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. Well, you should be glad to know that Konami plans to bring constant updates to the game to bring more cards and more strategy.

There are also plans to have PVP Rewards, which could not be discussed fully but players should know something is coming to incentivize participating in ranked battles.

There will also be more characters added post-launch so look out for that.

Konami told me it has listened to feedback from the closed beta and the biggest complaint from players is how Duel Links isn’t a simulation of the actual card game. Because Duel Links uses the Speed Duel format, a lot of players were a little turned off from the game but as I said in my impressions piece, the Speed Duel format is something you do get used to and benefits both casual and veteran players on mobile devices.

Normal duels can take a long time in real life and you can’t expect players to be on their phones for that long. And although I miss Main Phase 2, the Konami reps did tell me that it facilitates the Speed Duel format.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links is set to release for iOS and Android this Winter.
