X-Men: New Mutants is happening, and so is the untitled X-Force movie. The film has finally found a director in Joe Carnahan, best known for The Grey and Smokin’ Aces, and Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s upcoming Bad Boys for Life. Carnahan will also write the script alongside Deadpool ’s Ryan Reynolds. According to ComicBook.com, they’ve already begun collaborating.

Reynolds has voiced the X-Force movie is “a priority,” but it’s unclear if the film will release before the Deadpool sequel. Both films still have no release date. Reynolds is also pushing for an R rating, following in the footsteps of Deadpool and now Logan.

It’s nearly certain Cable will co-star in the Deadpool sequel, however, Reynolds also told ComicBook.com he would like to see Cable lead the X-Force team, like in the comics. During a NYC Deadpool fan event, one excited attendee shouted out “Deadpool & Cable,” to which Reynolds responded, “Your lips to God's ears, my friend. Believe me, that's being talked about.” In an earlier interview with Empire, Deadpool Director Tim Miller affirmed Reynolds’ statement. "There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”

In addition to Cable, the X-Force lineup has been rumored to include characters like Domino, X-23, Warpath, Colossus, Cannonball, Feral and Psylocke. Reynolds also addressed rumors about who is writing the Deadpool 2 script. He tweeted Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still on board. Rumors had suggested Drew Goddard was replacing them.
