Developer Studio MDHR has released a patch for Cuphead that cleaned up several balance issues, introduced bug fixes and removed exploits from the game. Previously, the game suffered from various freezing and crashing problems, as well as incorrect hitboxes.

The full patch notes from Cuphead v.1.1.3 make note of several fixes, notably a weapon-swapping exploit that has allowed players to pepper enemies with high-powered shots. The Charge weapon has also been nerved—it's no longer the souped-up way to cut through enemies it used to be. Finally, the latest update introduced a new “spooky Mausoleum announcer” as well.

Additionally, bosses have been altered in several ways. Previously, the King Dice boss would force players to his “Start Over” game space several times over, which made the fight come to an end only to have players have to replay it all over again. It should now only pop up once. Similarly, the final boss of the game has been buffed considerably. You can’t just get away from his powerful goat attack by crouching down and hoping for the best. It takes some actual skill now to get away.

Interestingly, the Cagney Carnation boss fight has also received a pretty trippy new upgrade in the form of the fuzzy balls he shoot out, which now zap you with a psychedelic punch. The screen will go all wavy if you get hit with one, which is an interesting throwback to Yoshi’s Island, originally released for the Super Nintendo.

Cuphead has managed to sell over a million copies, so it’s good to see the game continuing to receive support from its developers, especially since it continues to be a shining example of interesting game design and aesthetic. See the full patch notes below.
