Witcher 3 DLC Release Date: Hearts Of Stone Almost Done, But Mostly Mysterious

The Witcher 3 DLC is actually not that far away: The game’s first paid DLC, Hearts of Stone, is already almost done, as developer CD Projekt Red reported at PAX Prime. That makes sense: It’s slated to come out in October. That’s great news, since Witcher really is the game that keeps on giving: A constant stream of free DLC culminated in the recent release of New Game Plus mode, a new patch is bringing more romantic options, and now the huge expansion packs are on their way!

Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone Release Date

Witcher 3’s first DLC pack is called Hearts of Stone, and it’s supposed to be about 10 hours in length—which probably means way more than that, in practice, at least for most of us. This DLC is set in Velen, No Man’s Land, and Oxenfurt, so it’s not taking us into wholly new territory. Instead, this seems like it’s a questline-based DLC, more in the vein of Skyrim: Dawnguard than Skyrim: Dragonborn. It’ll obviously still be awesome—pretty much everything about The Witcher 3 is—but the main attraction, the new region of Toussaint, isn’t coming until spring 2016.

Despite the not-at-all-far-away release date of the Hearts of Stone DLC, we don’t actually know much about it. It involves a quest line from some fellow called the Man of Glass. Based on the promotional image for the DLC, Shani from the original The Witcher is also going to show up again, which should be nice fan service for those of us who played the original. But other than that, we don’t really know too much.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that the new DLC will be optimized for both a standard Witcher 3 playthrough and a New Game Plus mode, which is great news for those of you who have somehow managed to finish this game. I’ve been playing for ten hours a week since it came out and I haven’t even gotten to Skellige yet, so more power to you if you’ve gotten farther. I guess I should play less Gwent? Nah, not worth it.

Hearts of Stone will be out in October. So buy that Season Pass now!
