Just in case you thought Ubisoft’s The Division was dead, there’s a new wave of content coming in the form of update 1.8, which is free for all players and landing next week. In a new State of the Game announcement, details of the upcoming The Division patch were divulged.

The update introduces a new PvE Horde mode called Resistance, which will have players use SHD-Tech to build up fortifications against allied factions. Another new mode called Skirmish, a 4v4 PvP option, is coming as well. There’s also a whole new set of checkpoints, directives, and other kinds of gear optimization that’s coming with this update, including an extension of the West Side Pier map. In addition, there’s a new Rogue 2.0 “voluntary rogue toggle” meant to rebalance the Dark Zone, according to Ubisoft.

"We recognize there is plenty of passion around the Dark Zone, but we also want to remind everyone that The Division is a live game. As such, we are always evolving to best suit the overall balance of the game," said Ubisoft in the latest State of the Game blog. "Our intention was to create a zone that was an equal 50/50 percentage split between PVE and PVP activity. When it comes to Rogues in the DZ in 1.7, our data reveals that the balance is entirely off. 75 percent of player deaths in the DZ are exclusively PVP, and that is something we want to change."

There isn’t a confirmed release date for update 1.8, so there isn't a complete set of patch notes to look over just yet. There is, however, a State of the Game video to check out that details much of what’s coming. There’s also an exhaustive subreddit post where a summary can be found of even more of what’s coming when the update deploys.

Tom Clancy’s The Division originally released in March 2016, an online-only multiplayer shooter that finds players in the middle of the aftermath of a smallpox breakout. It released to mostly positive reviews from critics, but it’s since gone quiet in the game world for some time. The Division 1.8 Update seems to be one of the larger updates in some time. Do you still play The Division? If you don't, does 1.8 encourage you to return? Let us know in the comment section below.
