Before announcing the new Fast and Furious release dates, Vin Diesel had to get out of his “Xander state of mind,” slowly working himself away from his xXx: The Return of Xander Cage persona to his Dominic Toretto character, a psychic continuum only the Diez himself can walk.

At first you’ve got Diesel in character on the set of his upcoming xXx sequel. He’s really in the zone and shirtless in that very special way only Xander can be.

Somewhere in between these pictures is where Diesel—sorry, Xander—learns that Diesel has some major Fast and Furious news to announce in character as Dominic Toretto. The transformation has already begun.

Here, finally, is The One—the only Diesel who can embody both Xander and Toretto. The only Diesel who can finally unveil the Fast and Furious release dates. What was once a transformation from one to another has become a transcendent hybridity. Car thief. Extreme sportster. Actor. Xander Cage and Fast and Furious together as one.

With three Fast and Furious movies in five years, the series has adopted a slower rate of release than the Star Wars’ movies, which are scheduled to come out once a year, forever. The Age of Franchise has achieved such a frenzied state that the movie series with 10 entries in 20 years has become one of the slower, more deliberate ones.

The next entry, Fast 8, will be directed by Straight Outta Compton ’s F. Gary Gray .
