and Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami has released a statement apologizing for the confusion surrounding the future of their beloved game franchises.

The highly anticipated Silent Hills game starring The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus was abruptly canceled back in April. Reedus confirmed his contract with Konami ended and the project was officially dead.
“We are aware that the conjecture surrounding our recent changes has prompted a great deal of anxiety, for which we apologies,” a Konami representative told IGN.
The rep added, “The Metal Gear and Silent Hill series, both beloved by countless fans around the globe, are also extremely important to Konami. We have nurtured them with care over many years since their inception, and will continue to produce products for both franchises, but we are not currently at a stage where we can announce the path these future titles will take.”
Director Guillermo Del Toro was also attached to the Silent Hills project. Fans have rallied behind the Silent Hills project since the announcement by creating a petition asking Konami to revive the game under Del Torro and video game designer Hideo Kojima. The petition has received over 150,000 signatures.
Del Toro recently spoke to IGN about the collapse of his Silent Hills project. Del Toro is among the many fans who signed the petition in the game’s honor. The director explained he was excited to create a “cutting-edge” horror game with Kojima starring Reedus.
“What we wanted to do with the game – and we were very much in agreement on this – was to take the technology and make it as cutting-edge as we could in creating terror in the house. The idea was very, very atmosphere-drenched,” Del Toro told IGN. “But what made Silent Hill so great was that you had the atmosphere but then you a pay-off with a very active, very intense series of moments.”
The director didn’t want to spoil what the “intense” moments in the game were as he still has hope for the game’s revival. What do you think about Konami’s apology? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
