While everything we’ve seen from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story looks amazing (Check out the Star Wars “Celebration Reel” above), the production has been dogged by persistent rumors of disaster. Leaks from inside the production have described it as a tonal mess, completely unworthy of the solid footing Disney achieved for its rebooted Star Wars universe with The Force Awakens. Unsatisfied with director Gareth Edward’s material, Disney brought in Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton, The Bourne Legacy) to work with Edwards through a substantial summer reshoot.

Now those reshoots are complete, according to cast member Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Four Lions), who told Yahoo, “we’re all finished up on them now.”

Whether or not the reshoots are successful in fixing Rogue One , their reemergence in the news couldn’t have come at a worse time. Suicide Squad reviews came out on Thursday and by most accounts the film is a complete mess. An expose in The Hollywood Reporter puts the blame on a meddling studio with so little confidence in its movie and so desirous of Guardians of the Galaxy hype that it brought in the company who created the popular Suicide Squad trailer to recut the movie after its own round of intensive reshoots.

Those reshoots made a mess of Suicide Squad . And according to Devin Faraci of Birth.Movies.Death., whose early reporting on the messy Suicide Squad production were largely confirmed by THR, Rogue One may still be hurtling toward the same fate.

Our best hope is that the studio behind the Marvel movies and The Force Awakens will handle their own reshoots much better than Warner Bros., who so far has botched every attempt at creating a DC cinematic universe.

We’ll see if the reshoots worked out when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on Dec. 16.
