Pokémon Sun And Moon players are hoping to max out their parties now that the game’s been released for a few months, and the latest craze involves fashioning together mini Lego robots to farm 6-IV Dittos while away from your 3DS.

For those who missed out on the method, there’s a full text guide here. We’ll offer an abbreviated version of the concept below.

  • You need a Pokémon that only knows Memento, (i.e. Alolan Grimer at lv 48) one that knows Trick, (a level-46 Kadabra) a Cubone with False Swipe and something with Recycle
  • With that quartet in mind, you also need two Adrenaline Orbs, one Smoke Ball, one Leppa Berry and 10 Revives. Give the Smoke Ball to your Recycle Pokémon and give the Leppa to your Trick. The Revives are just insurance.
  • At Mount Hokulani is where you’ll find Ditto.
  • Use the Adrenaline Orb, and the wild monster will transform to your Recycle pick
  • Switch to your Trick option. The Ditto will either Recycle or call for help. Ignore other Dittos that enter.
  • Use Trick to give the Leppa to the wild Ditto
  • Use False Swipe until the Ditto has 1 HP and defeat any surrounding Dittos
  • Switch to the Memento Pokémon and use an Adrenaline Orb.
  • After that, Dittos will just keep entering and knocking themselves out. This process should be repeated about 40 times.
  • After the 40, switch to your Recycle and let a called-in Ditto transform to it
  • Switch to your Trick Pokémon and use Trick to get the Leppa Berry back
  • Use Trick again to give the Berry to the called-in Ditto
  • Defeat the original Ditto
  • Catch the called-in Ditto that’s transformed at the end of the chain, and it should have high IVs.

As one might guess, this process can be very time consuming, and it essentially involves an endless loop of pressing the A button once you get the ball rolling. With that in mind, many fans have built mini Lego robots or contraptions to get the process done automatically. Check out the rig built by Twitter’s Alchemist Taylor below.

Others, like PKMN Trainer Dave on YouTube, have built more complex circuitry with some pretty sophisticated parts.

We don’t have a guide for how to make one of these yet, but some of the architects say they plan to release tutorials soon. Possibly one of the most mainstream methods, however, is to check out the Lego Power Functions set here. It basically comes with all the batteries and motors you’d need to produce the desired result.

If any of this interests you, you might also want to check out the latest Shiny breeding exploit and SOS Battle chaining rates that have emerged over the last few days. We also have EXP farming tutorials and workarounds to get infinite Bottle Caps for Hyper Training.

Pokémon Sun And Moon are available now on 3DS.

Would you be willing to build a Lego robot just to get a 6-IV Ditto? Is it easy enough to do the process by hand? Tell us in the comments section!
