With the Pokémon Sun and Moon gameplay trailer and announcement of new Pokémon and a Battle Royale mode at E3 2016, the time is ripe for many trainers to begin speculating about the new games.

There’s a lot of information that was given about new Pokémon and even some of the starters that many players may not have noticed.

The entire Sun and Moon demonstration from E3 2016 can be watched here. But after you’re done watching it, check out these five questions that we had about the information/footage shown at E3 2016.

POPPLIO WILL EVOLVE INTO A FAIRY TYPE?

This is the probably going to be the most obvious speculatory piece on Sun and Moon after E3. But once Popplio, the water starter, levels up to level 8 it learns the move Disarming Voice, which is a Fairy-type move.

Now, there are attack types that certain Pokémon learn that don’t match their particular type or typing but Popplio learning a Fairy-type attack seems fitting.

When the starters for Sun and Moon were revealed, immediately we thought Popplio would eventually evolve into a Water/Fairy-type. From its clownish looks (like Mr. Mime) the fairy typing seems, again, fitting for the sea lion Pokemon.

But naysayers will point to Milotic as a perfect example of a Pokémon that learns an attack that doesn’t necessarily go with its typing. The Water-type from Gen 3 learns Disarming Voice from Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire while not being a Fairy-type.

This would also go against the supposed leaks from the Pokémon website coding that revealed Popplio would evolve into a Water and Fighting-type Pokémon .

So this question will likely be left unanswered until the middle evolution is revealed.

POPPLIO WILL BE A BULKY SPECIAL ATTACKER?

Sticking to Popplio, we saw the sea lion Pokémon level up a few times during the E3 demonstration and you can see how it’s stats are allocated once it does.

Both times we saw Popplio’s HP go up considerably, while its base Special Attack stat was superior to its Attack stat. It also has some moderate defensive stats. With that, we can infer that Popplio will be a high HP, bulky, special attacker. This is not uncommon for water types, but with the possible Fairy typing giving some natural resistances Popplio could become the strongest of the three starters.

YUNGOOS EATS ANOTHER POKEMON?

Yungoos is the Normal-type Pokémon with a huge appetite. Not much is known about this little guy until you go to the Pokémon website and it paints a picture of Yungoos’ past, including how it’s not native to the Alola Region and that it was introduced to deal with the population of another Pokémon.

Here’s part of Yungoos’ description from the Pokémon website:

“Yungoos is not a Pokémon that is native to the Alola region. It was brought to the region to help deal with the explosive population of a certain other Pokémon, and now Yungoos are commonly seen around the Alola region.”

This would lead us to believe that we should expect another Pokémon to go along with Yungoos in Sun and Moon similar to Zangoose and Seviper. But what could that other Pokémon be?

According to the official Hawaii website on the mongoose, this animal is actually an invasive species like Yungoos is to the Alola Region. And while the mongoose are known to eat a number of animal species, in regards to Hawaii (which is what the Alola Region is based on) there are a number of birds it has endangered.

“The small Indian mongoose has been blamed with the extinction of ground-nesting birds in Jamaica and Fiji and commonly kill birds, including 8 federally listed endangered Hawaiian birds, such as the Hawaiian crow (‘alalā), petrels (ʻuʻau) and Hawaiian goose (nēnē).”

Petrels are actually a kind of seagull or a water-diving bird, which was sort of done with the Wingull line, and crows and geese have been done as well so unless this bird Pokémon is Pikipek, which there is no mention on Yungoos in its description, we should expect another bird Pokémon in Sun and Moon.

GRUBBIN WILL EVOLVE INTO BUG/ELECTRIC?

Grubbin is the forgotten new Pokémon from E3’s Sun and Moon demonstration because it wasn’t mentioned until after it was over but this little guy is possibly the Caterpie of this generation.

While Grubbin is the standard Bug-type with the Swarm ability, its website description hints strongly at what we can expect when it evolves.

“ Grubbin loves electricity, which is why it can be found near power plants and substations.”

It looks like Galvantula won’t be the only Bug/Electric-type anymore.

PIKIPEK TO GAIN A NEVER BEFORE SEEN FLYING-TYPE ATTACK?

Pikipek has the ability Skill Link, which makes multi-strike moves deal the maximum amount of attacks. There are plenty of moves in the Pokémon world that can utilize this ability but for Pikipek, as a Normal and Flying-type Pokémon, can only benefit from its Normal-type attacks like Fury Attack.

And while Spike Cannon and Double Slap will benefit from the Skill Link ability, Pikipek is not very likely to learn them.

That leads to possibly another brand new move for Sun and Moon, a Flying-type multi-hit attack. Pikipek is said to attack 16 times a second with its beak, why not make a Flying-type move to give it a STAB attack.

Sun and Moon is constantly introducing new moves and abilities, why not bring this new move to make Pikipek viable in battle?

And that’s the initial questions regarding the new Pokémon Sun and Moon announcement at E3, are we off-base or are we on to something? Sound off in the comments section below.
