Mei is bae, just accept it.
Mei is bae, just accept it. Blizzard

The long-awaited next Overwatch short has finally been released. Signaling the start of season two of the vignettes, “Rise And Shine” tells us the story of Ecopoint: Antarctica and what happened when everything went wrong. Even if you’ve never played Overwatch (though you totally should), you can understand what’s happening and care for this hero and her robot buddy.

The short is fantastically done, with the same level of quality expected of a serious Overwatch short. If you’ve played the Ecopoint map, you already knew that Mei’s pod was the only one that didn’t suffer a malfunction, but it’s still shocking to see in real time. In the new Overwatch “Rise and Shine” short, Mei shows the human spirit can really take on anything, regardless of the limitations, and find a solution to any problem. I know it’s silly to find inspiration in a fictional character, but watching Mei end that short by walking outside into the unknown really filled me with a sense of admiration for the icicle queen. It’s Pixar level animation combined with the video game characters fans have come to adore – of course it’s going to be well received.

Fans across the internet have been sharing their feelings on Twitter and it doesn’t look like there’s a dry eye in the house.

They’re also a ton of people that seem to be obsessed with Mei having her hair down and letting those curls out of the bun.

The outfit Mei was wearing has actually been in Overwatch since the Anniversary Event. A hawk-eyed fan found the connection almost immediately.

How did you like Mei’s new short? Tell us in the comments.
