Shovel Knight will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Not only that, but the game is about to be broken up into three different games, and many more updates. This news comes from developer Yacht Club Games.

First up, let’s talk about the actual games. Yacht Club Games has decided to make every copy of Shovel Knight that people own right now into Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. This is the fancy name they are giving to the “Get everything in one place” bundle. What we know as the original Shovel Knight will be getting renamed to Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope.

Along with Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, the other two campaigns will be sold as stand-alone games. This means if you already own Shovel Knight on one console, but want to play Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows or Specter of Torment on a different console, you won’t have to buy the whole game again.

Again, if you already own Shovel Knight on any platform, your version will automatically become Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, and you’ll continue to get all future updates as usual.

Speaking of future updates, more is coming to Shovel Knight in 2017. The co-op mode previously locked behind amiibos will be coming to PC and all consoles (excluding Vita and 3DS) in a free update. No specific date was given, but it should be soon. Body Swap mode with Shovel Knight and Shield Knight is also coming for free as well.

Additionally, new game modes are in the works. A new campaign tentatively called King Knight’s Campaign is planned for the future, along with a Battle Mode that allows up to four players to take each other on. Battle Mode will not come to 3DS or Vita.

If you don’t have Shovel Knight yet, now’s the time to get it. The price will also be increasing this spring once all these plans go into action. If you get Shovel Knight before then, you’ll be included in the free upgrade to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.

So what do you think? Are you excited to play Shovel Knight on your Switch? Are you looking forward to any of the new game modes or campaigns? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
