Mass Effect: Andromeda details are finally starting to trickle in, thanks to the recent Game Informer cover story, so its devs at BioWare are finally talking. In tweets, the concepts of race, female aliens and Reaper foes were touched upon.

While Game Informer just introduced N7 fans to Andromeda’s new Kett alien race, they won’t be the only fresh inhabitants to interact with. When asked if there are more unseen races in the galaxy, creative director Mac Walters said “the Kett are not alone in Andromeda.” Furthermore, he suggested that the relationships between these various races will be a huge undercurrent to the new story.

Linked to the concept of race in Mass Effect: Andromeda is the lack of female alien forms in the previous games. While we haven’t seen any yet, the fourth installment will indeed take this prior shortcoming into consideration as well. “We started developing the game with [female aliens] in mind,” producer Michael Gamble confirmed. BioWare tweeted about romance in Mass Effect: Andromeda before, and varied alien genders should certainly make that aspect of the game more interesting.

Even though the minds behind the project spent lots of time confirming what’s in the new game, they talked about what it won’t contain too. For those thinking the Reaper foes from the original Mass Effect trilogy might make a terrifying return, don’t plan on it. Walters reiterated that there are “no Reapers in Andromeda” so their mass relay tech won’t be involved. However, the new Pathfinder abilities do make heavy use of mass effect fields in some way.

As we inch closer to Mass Effect: Andromeda’s release date, we’re learning more and more about its story. Playing as Scott or Sarah Ryder, you’ll be charged with the task of finding a new home for humanity in the Andromeda galaxy. The narrative takes place during the late events of Mass Effect 2. This much was suggested by leaks some time ago, but BioWare announced it officially earlier this month.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is slated to release early next year with a possible leaked date of March 21. It’s planned platforms are PS4, Xbox One and PC.
