Persona 5's Ann Takamaki Atlus

Atlus released a new Persona 5 gameplay video on Tuesday, featuring voice actor Erika Harlacher, who lends her talents to the character of Ann Takamaki, ahead of the game’s April 4 debut in the Americas and Europe.

The roughly 20-minute video shows Harlacher leading the Phantom Thieves through a typical school day at Tokyo’s Shujin Academy, duking it out with Shadows in the Metaverse to rescue Ann from the perv-hound King Kamoshida. For those who have been avoiding Persona 5 spoilers since the game’s September release in Japan, the trailer gives some welcome insight into the game’s characters, particularly Ann’s backstory and her quest to find justice for her friend, without revealing any major story spoilers.

Longtime fans of the series will feel right at home with the established formula of a boss battle followed by a dramatic realization. It’s nice to see that Atlus isn’t looking to completely overhaul the franchise with P5, but is instead committed to sticking with what works. Speaking of which, the series’ trademark sense of humor is on full display in the clip; we’re glad to see things haven’t gotten too heavy and serious with the latest installment’s darker tone.

Persona 5 comes to PS3 and PS4 on April 4. The Take Your Heart Premium edition is currently sold out on Amazon and GameStop, but you can still preorder from Best Buy for $89.99.
