The team behind Halo Wars 2 has officially announced that the game has gone gold ahead of the final beta for Blitz mode. To try out Halo Wars 2 for yourself, the beta will be available to play on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs from Jan. 20 to Jan. 30.

For those who don’t know, “going gold” means that development for a game has come to an end. Traditionally, this meant that the game was done, but with constant updates and patches, “going gold” isn’t the end of the road it once was.

The Halo Wars 2 beta will only include the new Blitz game mode. In this mode, players create decks of cards, with each card representing a different ground, air or infantry unit. Players go head-to-head in either 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 matches and try to take down the opposing force. Only one map, called Proving Grounds, will be available during the beta.

While none of the progress made during the beta will carry over to the full game, those who participate in the beta will get some exclusive rewards for their efforts. Everyone who participates in the Blitz Beta will be awarded up to two free in-game Blitz card packs in the final retail version when it ships in February. You’ll earn one card pack just for logging into the Blitz Beta and another one after you’ve completed your first match.

If you are interested in Halo Wars 2, but Blitz mode doesn’t sound that appealing, there are several other game modes planned for launch. These include a single-player or co-op campaign, as well as other multiplayer modes like Domination, Strongholds and more.

Halo Wars 2 releases on Feb. 21 for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

So what do you think? Are you excited to try out Blitz mode in Halo Wars 2? Are you more interested in the other modes and campaign? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
