'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 Is 'Much Grander,' Says Kit Harington

After a dumb Facebook Live stunt involving a giant block of ice revealed the Game of Thrones Season 7 release date (July 16), Jon Snow actor Kit Harington spoke with ABC News, giving fans a hint of what to expect from this summer’s new episodes.

Harington avoided dropping any juicy details, but he did mention the upcoming episodes are “much grander” and show “so much more ambition." He later added, "There are less episodes this year, so they spent more money on those episodes. So, the whole scale of it is up."

So GoT fans can expect to see less walking around in the countryside, and more epic battles on the scale of Hardhome, the Battle of the Bastards and the Battle of the Blackwater in the upcoming seventh season. We’re assuming Dany’s impressive fleet won’t manage to make it to Westeros unscathed, and she might have a oceanic run-in with a certain usurper of the Iron Islands. Producing that kind of epic sea battle (with dragons!) can’t come cheap. What’s more, given the shaky foundation of Cersei’s reign on the Iron Throne, it’s very likely fans are in store for some kind of massive Lannister rout, whether at King’s Landing, Casterly Rock, or both. Any of those events would be elaborate -- and extremely costly -- to shoot.

When asked about Seasons 7 and 8, Harington told ABC News, he hopes the show will go out "with a bang." He elaborated, "That has to happen at the end of Thrones, this season and next season," he said. "It has to go into places TV hasn't been."

Sadly, the actor revealed nothing regarding Jon Snow’s storyline, though we already know a fair bit about Season 7 going in, thanks to numerous set leaks over the last several months.
