Battling in Fire Emblem Heroes is a lot like the main games. You control your heroes and move them through different maps to defeat every enemy. It’s a rather simple method of battle but there are some intricacies that you will want to be aware of.

The new Fire Emblem mobile game changes some aspects of battling in a way that veteran players may not recognize. From skills, terrain and different types of weapons, there is a lot to digest in Fire Emblem Heroes.

We compiled this battle guide for Fire Emblem Heroes to help new and old players master the battlefield and strengthen their armies.

BASICS

The first thing you need to know is how to move around each map. Movements are accomplished simply by swiping across the board. Each character has a certain number of steps (boxes) they can move and they are indicated by blue boxes. You can swipe your character to anywhere the blue boxes allow.

Be aware that you can’t just walk past an enemy, you’ll have to walk around them if there’s room.

To Attack opponents, all you need to do is swipe your hero to where the opponent is and a battle logo will appear. Certain classes/weapons allow heroes to attack enemies from far away. Archers and Thieves holding daggers can attack enemies from two boxes away.

TERRAIN

Every map will have different terrain, whether it’s tall grass, mountains etc. You’ll have to maneuver your units across these obstacles.

Certain maps have walls that can impede your army from getting to enemies faster, but usually these walls can be destroyed. Just move your heroes close enough to the wall to weaken the wall until it breaks. You can go around the walls but it’s usually easier to just go through them.

There are bodies of water, mountains and trees that will limit certain heroes’ movements. Heroes that have flying steeds like Pegasus and Wyverns can fly over almost anything.

Any unit on horseback will also be able to travel over different types of terrain like mountains and cliffs easier than anyone on foot. These heroes can also move further than those that are on foot.

Terrain can also affect battles. If your unit is in a different type of terrain like tall grass, it can give your unit an increased chance to avoid attacks on defense. This is also true for the enemy, so be sure to get the terrain advantage first.

WEAPONS

Fire Emblem fans will know of the Weapon Triangle that determines which weapons do better against others. This Weapon Triangle was simplified in Fire Emblem Fates to be color-coded and that has carried over to Fire Emblem Heroes .

Red/Swords beats Green/Axe. Green/Axe beats Blue/Lance. Blue/Lance beats Red/Sword.

The weapon advantage adds 20 percent to the damage dealt and disadvantages take away 20 percent.

Archers also have an advantage against flying opponents, so keep that in mind.

Each weapon has two stats, Might and Range. Might determines how strong a weapon is. The Range determines how many boxes away an enemy can be for you to attack. You can upgrade your hero's weapons by learning new skills.

SKILLS

Skills is what differentiates Fire Emblem Heroes from the other Fire Emblem games. Each hero can learn new Skills by earning SP or Skill Points. Skill Points are earned with every enemy defeated and level up.

When you have enough Skill Points, you can teach a hero a new Skill. These Skills can be as simple as a weapon upgrade or it can be a passive or active Skill.

Passive Skills are abilities that are always active as long as the hero is still alive. Active Skills are effects that show up after a certain number of turns. On the map, there will be a purple number next to the hero. When it hits zero, the next battle will activate that Skill. This will normally be a special attack that can one-shot an enemy.

Each hero also has three slots for more Skills. The ABC slots can be filled with a Skill that is learned by spending Skill Points.

There are certain Skills that can’t be learned by a hero of a certain star level. If a Skill has a 5 Star next to it, that hero needs to be a five-star hero to learn it. That’s what makes these heroes very valuable, because they have access to their greatest weapons and skills.

STATS

The stats of every unit determines the role they play in battle. Some are frontline tanks with high attack and defense while others can be well-balanced or healers.

Leveling up heroes by gaining experiencing in battle or using crystal shards will increase stats.

Here are each stat and what they do:

HP = The hero’s health points. If this reaches zero the hero dies.

ATK = The strength affects damage the unit deals with physical attacks or magic.

SPD = The speed stat affects a unit’s avoidance rate. It also allows a unit to strike twice if the speed stat has five more than the opponent.

DEF = The defense stat reduces damage from physical attacks.

RES = The resistance stat reduces the damage from magical attacks.

Each class is strong and weak in certain stats and with every level up, those stats will increase faster than others when they level up.

That’s everything you need to know to succeed in battle in Fire Emblem Heroes . Is there anything we missed? Let us know your best strategies in the comments section below.
