‘Dragon Ball Super’ Anime: Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Gets A Much Needed Name Change

With the release of the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F movie, fans of the long-running anime were treated to a brand new form for our favorite Saiyan, Goku.

Once Frieza was resurrected and achieved a higher form, Goku became the blue-haired wonder known as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. While that’s a mouthful in and of itself, it seems the Dragon Ball Super anime, which continues the story of the Z Fighters, has simplified the naming of this new form.

A Kotaku report says that in the latest Dragon Ball Super episode, Vegeta transforms into the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form in front of Cabba. Vegeta says to the young Saiyan, “This is the latest [form] Super Saiyan Blue” in a seemingly passive manner.

Interesting enough, Kotaku also points out how, in the Dragon Ball Super manga, the Z fighters get to the Super Saiyan Blue name in a more organic way. Both Vegeta and Goku are sitting around thinking about the name Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, and how it’s too long. Whis suggests they call it Super Saiyan Blue and the name sticks.

Unfortunately, in the anime adaptation we don’t get more explanation for the name change but what’s done is done: Super Saiyan Blue is now forever engraved into Dragon Ball lore.

So are you in favor of the new name for Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan? Could you come up with something better? Let us know in the comments section.
