The Civilization 6 team has shared gameplay details for India, led once again by Civ fan favorite, Gandhi. Check out the video below for more details on India in Civ 6:

Gandhi ’s special Leader ability, Satyagraha, is named after his philosophy of nonviolent resistance. For each Civ India has met that has founded a religion and is not at war, India gets a significant boost to Faith. Opposing Civs get additional happiness penalties for fighting against Gandhi.

India’s Civ ability is called Dharma. India gets the follower beliefs of all religions present in their cities, not just the one from their own religion. It’s not hard to imagine how creating a religious crossroads of a nation might help swing you towards a peace-oriented, glorious victory.

India’s unique unit is one of the coolest yet, the Varu, otherwise known as the War Elephant. “Atop the Varu rests a wooden box where archers and pikemen can attack infantry units relatively safe from harm, while the elephant itself presents multiple dangers to any soldiers within its path,” explains the Civilization VI blog. The Varu reduces the combat strength of adjacent enemy units in addition to looking super freaking cool.

The Stepwell is India’s unique tile improvement. It provides housing and food, but can provide even more of both if situated correctly. If built next to a farm, the Stepwell provides bonus food. It can also provide bonus faith if built next to a holy site.

Gandhi and India’s bonuses to faith and the Stepwell improvement mean there will be both housing and faith galore for your bounteous population, provided you can keep peace in your lands with your Varu at hand.
