Details for the next Call of Duty game are still scarce, but information from the Activision 2018 Earnings Call has revealed some interesting tidbits. The most exciting is the likely return of a single-player campaign mode for the next Call of Duty game.

During the Earnings Call, Activision President Rob Kostich said Call of Duty 2019 will feature “a new, expansive campaign, a large multiplayer mode and new co-op experiences” according to Charlie INTEL.

The next Call of Duty game is developed by Infinity Ward. The studio’s most recent release, 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, featured a single-player campaign. The most recent Call of Duty game released is 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which skipped the single-player mode to focus on Zombies and the new battle royale mode Blackout.

While it looks like a single-player campaign is coming to the next Call of Duty game, we aren’t sure what else will be included. Kostich mentioned a large multiplayer mode, so it’s probably safe to expect to see the traditional offerings of Call of Duty multiplayer game modes including Domination, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint and more.

What isn’t certain is the inclusion of Zombies modes or an updated Blackout mode. Battle royale games tend to update over time instead of releasing new versions, so it’s possible the Blackout mode included in the next Call of Duty is more of a continuation of the one found in Black Ops 4. Alternatively, if there is a battle royale game mode in the next Call of Duty, it could be something completely different from what we’ve already experienced in Blackout. We’ll have to wait for more information to know for sure.

As for Zombies, it seems like the game mode is tied to the Call of Duty franchise for good now. I would be more surprised to see a new Call of Duty game without a Zombies mode than another game without a single-player mode. While we don’t know for sure if Call of Duty 2019 features waves of undead, it seems foolish not to have the game mode.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see the return of single-player gaming to the Call of Duty franchise? What do you think the next Call of Duty game will look like? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
