‘Arrow’ Season 5: Talia Al Ghul Explains First Green Arrow Suit’s Origins

The Arrow Season 5 flashbacks with Talia al Ghul revealed a surprising bit of information: she gave Oliver the first Green Arrow suit in Russia. Talia also gave Oliver the idea to become a costumed vigilante in the first place. The scene where Talia convinces Oliver he must cross the names off his father’s list, hands him a bow and arrow, and gifts him with his first green leather outfit is the beginning of Oliver’s journey to “become something else.”

We recently chatted with Lexa Doig, who plays Talia, about this week’s big reveals and got to ask her about where procured the suit she gave Oliver.

“I think she has a tailor. She has a superhero tailor that she likes to go to to get all her pleather made. She knew she was going to be tracking down Oliver and she knew she was going to be helping him create this sort of alter ego. She secretly measured him in his sleep to get all his measurements and go to the superhero tailor, which there’s probably three in the world and Batman’s was busy so she has her own,” Doig joked. “If you really think of the logistics of this, it’s a bit silly, but it makes for a really cool moment.”

When Oliver arrives back in Star City after being stranded on Lian Yu, ‘The Hood’ suit Talia gives him in this season’s flashbacks is the same one he wears in Season 1, though it does eventually get destroyed. Oliver still has that same chest we see in that scene with Talia, which he stores in the bunker along with his stash of Russian Vodka. Since the Arrow Season 5 finale will link up with the very first episode of Arrow Season 1, it will be interesting to see how Oliver ends up back on Lian Yu, rescued, then back in Star City with the original costume Talia gave him.

Watch the scene where Oliver first dons the suit below.
