Apple May Be Dropping the X From Mac OS X: Say Hello To macOS Apple

Apple may be dropping the X from Mac OS X, according to a report from Cult of Mac. Developer Guilherme Rambo was apparently poking around in the interface files included in Mac OS X and found a couple file names with a new macOS terminology.

Rambo originally told Brazilian website MacMagazine.com.br about this discovery, saying that he uncovered the new OS naming convention in a private framework called “FlightUtilities.” According to Rambo, this feature is currently not used in El Capitan but will one day enable flight tracking in OS X.

If MacMagazine.com.br and Rambo’s speculations are correct, Apple’s computer operating system will be returning full circle to the way it was named back before Steve Jobs switched the OS to a Unix base . It would make sense however, considering the way Apple has named the operating systems for the iPhone, Apple TV and Apple Watch (iOS, tvOS and watchOS respectively).

Like AppleInsider reports , Apple is prone to changing their naming terminology when it suits them. iOS used to be called iPhone OS, while Apple itself used to be called Apple Computers, Inc. before it became Apple, Inc. Much like how the times change, Apple changes the names of their services and devices with them.
