One of the bigger pieces of news from San Diego Comic-Con was the confirmation Ghost Rider would join the cast of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD in its fourth season.

For the past two seasons, SHIELD has been dealing with Inhumans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in Season 4 the show will enter the magical realm of the Marvel Universe and fans can thank the upcoming Doctor Strange movie for that.

In an interview with io9, executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen talked about Ghost Rider’s inclusion.

When they were asked about how Doctor Strange will affect the show, as many past Marvel Studios films have, Whedon said that the introduction of that character and his powers into the MCU paves the way for Ghost Rider. “It’s one of the reasons we think Ghost Rider will fit this year is that the cinematic universe is being opened up into that world.”

“But, as we learned in Thor,” Whedon continued, “the Marvel approach is that magic is just science we don’t yet understand. We’re going to have both the introduction of magical elements in our show as well as very hardcore science.”

Robbie Reyes will play Ghost Rider on Agents of SHIELD, and the latest incarnation of the Spirit of Vengeance drives a car instead of a motorcycle.

How Agents of SHIELD tackles Robbie Reyes’ origin will be interesting as it does have to do with magic and, well, the Marvel Universe’s version of the devil.

Agents of SHIELD Season 4 will premiere Sept. 20.

So how do you think the show will introduce Robbie Reyes, the Ghost Rider? Sound off in the comments section below.
