Characters in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia are organized by class. Whether they are Mages, Pegasus Knights or Barons, each character has a class to start as when your journey begins.

Each class in Shadows of Valentia has benefits that specialize in certain areas. When levelling up, stats grow in a certain way based on characters’ classes. But a character doesn’t stay in a Starter Class for the entire journey. Once a character has been raised to a certain level, players will be informed that it can be upgraded to an Advanced Class.

Advanced classes are more powerful versions of the Starter Class, and certain characters have a choice of Advanced Class.

To a change a character’s class, players will have to visit the Mila Idol and choose the “Change Class” option from the menu. Mila Idols can be found in dungeons and certain castles and towns.

Experienced Fire Emblem players suggest that you wait until a character has maxed out their level (usually level 20) before upgrading to have their Level 1 stats in the new class be as high as possible.
