After details on Nintendo and Universal Studios’ partnership were revealed, both companies revealed the Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan will be the first to get the Nintendo treatment in what is being called “Super Nintendo World.”

Super Nintendo World will be Osaka’s Nintendo-themed land and will feature characters and themes from the “Super Mario” series. The attraction area will also feature a variety of other globally popular Nintendo characters.

Both companies are hoping to have Super Nintendo World opened in time for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Nintendo characters and the worlds they inhabit will be re-created at the highest level of quality through the strong partnership between Shigeru Miyamoto, creative fellow at Nintendo, and Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative, renowned for creative and technical excellence.

Super Nintendo World will allow guests to fully immerse themselves and all five senses in the worlds of Nintendo, and is expected to attract guests from Japan and the world over.

This announcement comes after Nintendo and Universal Studios Resorts revealed Univeral Studios in Orlando and Hollywood would join Osaka in having a Nintendo-themed land.

The Nintendo and Universal partnership is one way Nintendo has begun to bring more eyes to its IP. The video game company already entered the mobile gaming market with Miitomo and its upcoming Super Mario Run (with two more mobile games in the works). Earlier in the year, the Vans partnership brought popular Nintendo characters to shoes everywhere.

With the reveal that Osaka receiving the Nintendo theme land first by 2020, those in the United States will have to wait until at least 2021 to see life-size Nintendo worlds in Orlando and Hollywood.
