One of the new features of Pokémon Sun and Moon is the ability to create and host your own online tournaments. It wasn’t ready at launch, but now that Pokémon Bank has updated trainers are now allowed to create Friendly Competitions.

These competitions utilize the Pokémon Global Link to create QR Codes to distribute or for trainers to sign up to public competitions created by other trainers from around the world.

But how do you create your own Friendly Competition in Pokémon Sun and Moon? Here’s how to setup your online tournament.

Log-in to the Pokémon Global Link site (if you haven’t registered, follow these steps ). There’s a Menu bar on the right side that drops down. Select “Friendly Competitions”, which brings you to a page where you can see other online Friendly Competitions. You can join one of these if you want.

To host your own Friendly Competition, select “Host a Competition”.

You’ll have two different options for competitions to host. The first is an Online Friendly Competition, which must have at least 20 entries. This competition can't be deleted or cancelled once it's created and you'll be able to create a new competition once the ranking of the competition you created is made public. This option is mostly for those trainers looking for anyone from around the world to join.

The second option, Live Format Friendly Competition, is a more private way to create an online competition. This competition can’t be deleted or cancelled once it’s created, you can create only one competition per day. The history of the competitions you’ve participated in, battle records and rankings earned will not be saved in this format. This format is for when you have your participants around you so you can use the Quick Link function in Sun and Moon.

Once you’ve chosen either format, you’ll need to create a name for your competition, a summary and whether it’ll be a single or doubles format. You’ll also be able to choose which Pokémon will be eligible in your Friendly Competition.

Alola Pokedex limits the Pokémon to what can be caught in Sun and Moon. National Pokedex lets any Pokémon in or out of the Alola region to be used and Legendary Rules allows for Legendary Pokémon. You’ll also have to decide whether Pokémon transferred from Pokémon Bank will be allowed.

Next step is to decide if Z-Crystals and Mega Stones are allowed. You then select the date of your competition and the time limit (10 or 30 minutes). Then you decide the number of battles allowed per day.

Once you’ve registered your competition, you can pull up the QR Code. Screenshot your QR Code to share with friends. To scan the Code, select "Live Competition" in the menu that appears just after you start the game. Select "Start the Live Competition" and then "Receive via QR Code," and your camera will start. Please line up the QR Code within the square and scan it. Don’t use the QR Scanner in the X menu.
